Reasons To Do Indoor Air Quality Testing

While you may think that your indoor air is pure due to the fresh smell in your home, that may not be the case. You require indoor air quality testing to ascertain that you are breathing clean air. Here are reasons for testing the air quality indoors.  

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)  

Ideally, VOC emissions come from paints, aerosol tins, and construction materials. The VOCs can irritate your eyes, nose, and throat, potentially resulting in migraines and respiratory issues. With VOCs present in your air, the indoors become uncomfortable. Hence, consider indoor air quality testing to help you identify these compounds, especially after painting or renovating your home. Also, if you're purchasing a new house, testing for volatile organic compounds is important.

However, professional radon testing is preferable since the tests are more accurate.

As a homeowner, you may face pest problems and turn to chemical pest control, especially when dealing with stubborn pests such as bedbugs. The pesticides may leave behind residue that contaminates the air. Long-term exposure to these chemical contaminants may cause problems like respiratory issues and constant skin irritation. With indoor air quality testing, you can identify the exact chemicals you're dealing with and devise effective ways of eliminating pesticides from the air.  

Asbestos  

Asbestos is common in older homes as it was a popular construction material due to its fire-resistant properties. However, asbestos can be risky as prolonged exposure to the material can cause lung cancer. Indoor air quality testing can help you know whether your house contains asbestos. If the test turns positive, then you can start eliminating the asbestos from your home.
